A few words about Bill --- from Dawson .............................
Bill Matheisz’s passing prompted me to recall some of my personal experiences with him and thought I should share them.
As I knew him over the past nine years or so I recall him to be all of these.
A consummate gentleman
An enthusiastic and thorough flight instructor who was able to mentor
successfully several trainees at a time
An excellent flier who knew the importance of practice, practice and more
practice
A guy who sported a full head of white hair
Performed admirably as President, always maintaining order even in the face of
and was instrumental in forming much of what we now call the club’s
By Laws and Constitution
As President he often made it a point to end a meeting with a tasteful, yet sometimes off-color joke
A guy with the audacity to let me start the publication of the club newsletter
A consummate gentleman
One of his attitudes, which impressed me, was his ability to make others feel welcome. In my case, shortly after I joined the club, he took the time on several occasions, to call me with an invitation to join him and few other members for an informal gathering at McDonald’s. With that type of gesture from the President, of all people, I couldn’t help but feel welcomed in the club.
Happy landings Bill.
